It is challenging to determine where to start on this topic. Over the last one-hundred-fifty years or so, the idea of the ubermensch, as articulated by Friedrich Nietzsche, has been interpreted in wildly different ways. But as a fan of history, particularly ancient history, I intend to take an interpretation relating to history. Your mileage may vary.

How do things happen? What the hell even is history? What causes large numbers of human beings, presumably mostly interested in simply getting on with their lives, to become swept up in the affairs of nations and states and their philosophizing henchmen?
